He may transition back to dirt for the Road to the Kentucky Derby!
- BC Juvenile Fillies: Vequist (Nyquist – Vero Amore) will likely receive an Eclipse award for her rock star performance in the BC! She is the early favorite for the 2021 Kentucky Oaks. Her time was 1:42.30 for the 1 and 1/16th mile race winning by 2 lengths.

She completed her 1 mile race in 1:35.71. One race prior, she set a record at Keeneland in the Jessamine Stakes. Jockey, Florent Geroux, said “I think the sky is the limit for her. Over the winter, hopefully she’ll grow a little bit and next year we can do it again.”
- BC Juvenile: Essential Quality (Tapit – Delightful Quality) is on “The Road to the Kentucky Derby” and at the top of the leaderboard! At 1 and 1/16 miles he won the BC by three-quarters of a length in 1:42.09. - BC Dirt Mile: Knicks Go (Paynter – Kosmo’s Buddy) broke a record with his 1:33.85 time over 1 and 1/16 miles, winning by 3 and 1/2 lengths. Now he has over $1.3 million dollars in earnings at 4 years-old. He was set to retire to stud in South Korea but his connections may have him race once more before his stallion career begins and leads to the question, might he stand in the U.S rather than Korea?
- BC Filly and Mare Turf: Audarya (Wootton Bassett – Green Bananas) finished first, by a neck, in 1:52.72 on the 1 and 3/16 mile track. Audarya is back home in Britain where she will have a nice rest for the winter before she starts her 5 year-old training season. She has over $1.2 million dollars in earnings.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Keeneland’s second hosting of the Breeders’ Cup. I am very much looking forward to post pandemic racing. Del Mar in San Diego will host next November but I most look forward to the promise of the BC World Championships returning to Keeneland a third time on November 4th and 5th of 2022! There will be a lot of racing and all things thoroughbred to cover between now and then. Don’t forget to follow and share Thoroughbred U for all of the exciting updates. Thank you!
