For racing today, check out the card in the Sunshine State, specifically, Gulfstream Park, in Hallandale Beach, FL. There are several nice races elsewhere this weekend including the Lecomte at Fair Grounds, in LA. That will be the only offering of Kentucky Derby Points this weekend. However, with a lot of focus and shipping in preparation on the Pegasus World Cup it is a good time to start watching Gulfstream.
The Sunshine Millions is a racing series that was began by the Stronach Group in 2002. Originally, it was an 8 race event where 4 races were held at Santa Anita in CA and the other 4 at Gulfstream. The races were restricted to CA and FL bred thoroughbreds. Now, the event is all FL based and FL breds. Today, there will be 4 Sunshine Millions races on a card of 12. The Sunshine Millions purse is $600,000 and it all kicks off at 11:45 A.M ET.
Race 4 posts at 1:15 PM. It is the Sunshine Million Sprint Stakes for FL-based thoroughbreds, four year olds and uwpards. The race is 6 furlongs on the dirt and carries a $100,000 purse. 7 contenders are entered.
The Sunshine Millions Turf Stakes is featured in the 6th. It is a turf race of 1 and 1/16 miles with a $150,000 purse. Only FL bred thoroughbreds age 4 and upwards may race. The race begins at 2:15 P.M. and has 9 horses facing off.
In the 10th race there are 13 entries. It is the Sunshine Millions Filly and Mare Turf Stakes. The 1 and 1/16 mile race is held on the turf and has a $150,000 purse. The race is restricted to female thoroughbreds, age 4 and older.
Finally, the feature is race 11, the Sunshine Millions Classic Stakes. This race is a 1 and 1/8 mile distance on the dirt. With a $200,000 purse the entries must be FL bred and 4 or older. 8 contenders have entered. View them by post, horse, jockey, trainer, owner and morning-line odds:
