The celebration continues!  The Kentucky Horse Park is honoring the legendary Man o’ War’s 100th year since his birth.  The party was in full swing Thursday evening, 6/29/17, when an event was held in downtown Lexington, KY to unveil the completed mural.

A Lexington restaurant, The Village Idiot’s, external wall was painted with a 30 foot by 30 foot, 2 story mural depicting Man o’ War’s 1920 Belmont Stakes victory.  Local Artist, Agustin Zarate, was at the event from 4 to 6 P.M. to sign free posters and talk about his masterpiece.

Zarate shared with me that he is a local artist that moved to Lexington from Mexico.  He was selected to create the mural from  a large list of candidates.  Mt. Brilliant Farm and LexArts Community Art selected his proposal.  He told me he loved painting the dynamic body of Man o’ War.  He says the paint should hold for 20 to 25 years.  It is beautiful and I’d love for it to be around for Man o’ War’s 200th.

Meanwhile, there was a sell-out on the new beer that was created for Man o’ War’s centennial.  Alltech Lexington Brewing and Distilling has developed a Mostest Wheat Ale to honor the mostest horse.

Fortunately, they didn’t run out of cups before I made a stop inside after admiring the mural.  I was happy to have that keepsake as well.  I have really been enjoying the events commemorating Man o’ War.  One such event that is forth coming is the Man o’ War Run for Big Red.  The Kentucky Horse Park will host a 5 and 10 K race on 8/5/17 at 8:00 A.M. EDT.   Enter here: Man o’ War Run for Big Red
