Alas, Keeneland is open for live racing again. I have long awaited, since the end of April, for live Thoroughbred racing to return to my hometown. Friday, October 6, 2017 at 1:05 PM EDT marks the start of Keeneland’s October meet. Racing continues through the 28th. There are so many fantastic things taking place this meet, including two Win And You’re In Breeders’ Cup races the very first day and so many more to follow. It is hard to know where to begin. I’m pretty interested in the return of Miss Temple City to my hometrack, where she always finishes in the money!
Miss Temple City was foaled 3/14/12. She is the Kentucky bred daughter of Temple City and Glittering Tax. She is owned by The Club Racing, LLC., Needle In A Haystack, LLC. and Sagamore Racing. Miss Temple City is trained by H. Graham Motion and her jockey is Edgar S. Prado. She last breezed at Fair Hill on the first of the month. She has since felt the main dirt track beneath her hooves and she is ready to race for the 5th time at Keenland.
Miss Temple City is a multiple graded stakes winner. She has had 19 starts. Her last race was her 7th win and just took place in September at Kentucky Downs in the Grade 3 KY Downs Ladies Turf Stakes. Ranked 28th in earnings last year, Miss Temple City is one of my favorite turf fillies.
On day 2 of Keeneland’s meet, Miss Temple City will defend her title in The Shadwell Turf Mile. It is the same Grade 1 race she won there last year. The 32nd running of the Shadwell will take place in race 9 on a card of 10. The Shadwell carries a purse of $1 million dollars. It will post at 5:45 PM. This race is a Win and You’re In berth into the BC Mile Division. The Shadwell is an 8 furlong (1 mile) turf race for Thoroughbreds age 3 and older.
Miss Temple City will face a lucky 13 contenders. She is the only filly in the field. The entries are as follows by post-position/horse/jockey/trainer/morning-line odds:
- Tyler/R. Albarado/ T S Wismer/50-1
- Divisidero/J R Leparoux/W B Bradley/9-2
- Suedois/D A Tudhope/D O’Meara/15-1
- Le Ken/C J Lanerie/I Correas IV/30-1
- Dimension/C Landeros/C Murphey/20-1
- Ballagh Rocks/J Lezcano/W I Mott/10-1
- Mondialiste/F Lynch/D O.Meara/4-1
- Miss Temple City/E S Prado/H G motion/3-1
- Flatlined/J Rocco Jr./C L Dickey/20-1
- Heart to Heart/F Geroux/B A lynch/7-2

- Offering Plan/J Castellano/C C Brown/15-1
- Applicator/S Bridgmohan/M Yanakov/30-1

Miss Temple City has some tough competition but I think the reigning champ can do it! When she does, I want to see her avenge herself in the BC Mile where she finished 5th last year. I know she can do better.
I hope you enjoy the Shadwell Turf Mile and all of the fine racing that Keeneland has scheduled this meet. Check back frequently for information and photos from and about this Keeneland meet.
