The site of a Thoroughbred always leaves me wanting More!  As the 13 session long, Keeneland September Yearling Sale has 3 more days to go we have one Mo weekend to see Mo yearlings, spend or make Mo money and meanwhile enjoy some Mo racing.  Uncle Mo was well represented at Keeneland’s sale and he has a couple more hips in the final 3 sessions.  Additionally, he has sired several horses racing word-wide over these next 3 days.  If you are looking for something Mo, please, read on.

Of the 4,538 head catalogued in the Keeneland September Yearling Sale, Uncle Mo sired 105.  Not surprisingly, most of his foals were cataloged in the first sessions.  With just 3 days to go he has 2 final fillies entered, hips 3656 and 4271 (update: 4271 is now listed as an out).  Uncle Mo is currently the top sire of this sale.  He has had 64 of his offspring sold at this sale so far for an average of nearly $350, 000 each for a gross of more than $22 million dollars.  He had a colt sell for $1 million, a filly sell for $1.1 million and another colt (seen above) sell for $1.4 million.  Uncle Mo had multiple session sale toppers.  11 more of his foals went for $500,000 or more.

Uncle Mo is a sire at Coolmore America’s Ashford Stud in Versailles, KY.  He is in very good company as the only living Triple Crown Winners are at the same farm.  American Pharoah arrived there after his 2015 Grand Slam and Justify  moved there this week.  Coolmore has a great selection of stallions.

Uncle Mo was born in 2008 to Indian Charlie and Playa Maya.  He had a brief but very successful racing career.  He won 5 of 8 starts racing at age 2 and 3 but retired early due to elevated liver enzymes that are not hereditary and were not expected to be a problem once the stress of racing was removed.  Uncle Mo has an Eclipse Award for 2010 Champion 2 Year Old Colt following his first place finish in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile that same year.  He won the Grade 1 Champagne Stakes, the listed Timely Writer Stakes and the Grade 2 Kelso Handicap.  Now, the father of 6 crops, Uncle Mo has sired 549 foals of racing age with 213 winners and 40 Black Type winners.  There are so many successful Thoroughbreds sired by Uncle Mo but a couple of his top performers were Kentucky Derby winner, Nyquist, and Unbridled Mo, she retired last month after 7 wins in 12 starts including multiple graded stakes.

Uncle Mo has 21 offspring racing Friday through Sunday in multiple countries.  I am most interested to see his son, Name Changer, race in the Pennsylvania Derby Champion Stakes on Saturday, 9/22/18.  It is the 8th race on a card of 13 races at Parx Racing in Pennsylvania.  Saturday is PA Derby Day at Parx which features the PA Derby and The Cotillion Stakes, each with a million dollar purse.  I plan to check out all 13 races.

There is plenty Mo for Thoroughbred fans this weekend.  Spend Mo money and buy Mo yearlings or make a bet.  Make Mo money winning that bet or investing in the yearlings.  Experience Mo watching all the great races this weekend.  Uncle Mo was a talent on the track and he still is in the breeding shed.  I hope he sires many more champions and I’ve liked watching his foals at the sale.  Have a great weekend and get Mo out of life. As always, check back regularly for Mo on Thoroughbreds.
