Pauline’s Pearl (KY) Tapit–Hot Dixie Chick: (5:2-1-1) is a beautiful gray daughter of Tapit. She got her start at Fair Grounds as a two year-old, where she broke her maiden in her third start at age three. Then, she shipped to Oaklawn and picked up prep points placing in the GIII Honeybee Stakes and winning the GIII Fantasy Stakes. Trainer, Asmussen, has won the KY Oaks twice.
Maracuja (KY) Honor Code – Patti’s Regal Song: (4:1-2-1) is another pretty gray. She has raced exclusively at Aqueduct. She broke her maiden in her second start. Her prep points were earned in her last race. She finished second in the GIII Gazelle Stakes.
Clairiere (KY) Curlin – Cavorting: (4:2-2-0) loves racing at Churchill. She broke her maiden at first asking, there as a two year old. She has since raced 3 stakes, finishing second or better at Churchill and Fair Grounds. She was second in the GII Golden Rod and GII Fair Grounds Oaks and first in the GII Rachel Alexandra. Clairiere shares Pauline’s Pearl’s trainer and owner.
Crazy Beautiful (KY) Liam’s Map – Indian Burn: (7:3-3-0) is a befitting name, she is gorgeous. This gray girl got her start at Ellis Park, where she won at first asking. At the same track she won the Black Type Runhappy Debutante Stakes. She was second in the Pocahontes, at Churchill, and Darley Alcibiades, at Keeneland. Continuing at my hometrack, Keeneland, she was disappointing in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies with her worst finish, sixth place. She rebounded with respective second and first place finishes at Gulfsteam, in the Davona Dale Stakes and the Gulfstream Park Oaks. Jockey, Jose Ortiz has won the KY Oaks before.
Pass the Champagne (KY) Flatter – Champagne Taste: (3:1-2-0) is fresh off a second place finish in the GI Ashland Stakes at Keeneland. Her first two starts were at Gulfstream. She broke her maiden in her second entry. Her jockey, Castellano, has won first place in the KY Oaks in the past. Check out all of her pictures in this story.
Travel Column (KY) Frosted – Swingit: (5:3-1-1) is a chip off the Frosted block, she is lovely and gray. I look forward to her return to Churchill. She won her first and third start at Churchill in a maiden and the GII Golden Rod Stakes. She picked up more stakes points, finishing first in Keeneland’s GI Darley Alcibiades, then second and first again in Fair Grounds’ Rachel Alexandra and the Fair Grounds Oaks. Her jockey/trainer combo, Geroux/Cox have won the KY Oaks together twice. Last year was their most recent win!
Ava’s Grace (KY) Laoban – Cover Girl Elle: (4:1-1-2) started on the right hoof. She won at Ellis in her first race. She shipped to Saratoga and was third in the GII Adirondack. She moved on to Oaklawn for her last two starts. She was third and then second. Her last race was none other than Oaklawn’s GIII Fantasy Stakes.
Moraz (KY) Empire Maker – Malvinia: (5:1-1-3) comes to us from the California racing scene. She has raced with success at both Los Alamitos and Santa Anita. She finished third in the Las Virgenes Stakes and second in the Santa Ysabel Stakes.
Coach (KY) Commissioner – And Stay Out: (7:3-1-2) started her career on a three race winning streak, twice at Indiana Grand and then in a Black Type race at Churchill Downs. She has since raced four graded stakes at Churchill and Oaklawn where she finished third, second, fifth and third. Coach shares her trainer with Travel Column.
Malathaat (KY) Curlin – Dreaming of Julia: (4:4-0-0) is undefeated in 4 starts! She has won at Belmont, Aqueduct and Keeneland. I watched her romp in the GI Ashland Stakes. Trainer, Pletcher has won the KY Oaks several times. Once in combination with jockey, Velazquez. This post has many pictures of her.
Will’s Secret (KY) Will Take Charge – Girls Secret: (7:3-0-3) is a shipper with experience. She has raced twice at Churchill, twice at Keeneland, twice at Oaklawn and once at Fair Grounds. She was the winner of the Honeybee Stakes and recently picked up Oaks points, finishing third in the Ashland. Her trainer, Stewart, has been in the winners circle for the KY Oaks. Search Results (KY) Flatter – CO Cola: (3:3-0-0) is undefeated in 3 career starts. She has won at Gulfstream and Aqueduct. Her last entry was the Gazelle Stakes.
Competitive Speed (KY) Competitive Edge – Shopped Out: (7:3-0-2) is coming to her home state to race after all her seven starts were in Florida, at Gulfstream. She has won the Glitter Woman and was third in both the Davona Dale and the Gulfstream Park Oaks.
Millefeuille (KY) Curlin – Bandana: (5:1-3-0) is also fresh out of Florida. She started in New York with two entries at Belmont and one at Aqueduct, where she was second in the Demoiselle. Then she raced twice at Gulfstream where she was seventh in the Davona Dale and second in the Gulfstream Park Oaks. Owner, Juddmonte, has a prior KY Oaks win.
