This weekend there are three Grade 3, Kentucky Derby prep races. Today the Withers Stakes is at Aqueduct and the Holy Bull Stakes is at Gulfstream. Tomorrow, Santa Anita will host the Robert B. Lewis Stakes. Writing from my very chilly Kentucky home, my thoughts are with warmer Florida today. For nine thoroughbreds, their chances at getting Kentucky Derby prep points today are hinging on the Holy Bull.

The Breeders’ Cup World Championships 2021 will finally run, today and tomorrow at Del Mar Racetrack. Located in coastal Del Mar, California, this track is “Where The Turf Meets The Surf” and it is set to host the38th Breeders’ Cup races. Del Mar is where the champs are.

Late October, Keeneland has all the feels of a heavenly place and this meet included a special angel. Seventeen stakes to date into the Fall meet and I’m still so enthused that I was present for many of the races and especially the win, raced by California Angel!

Keeneland is back! Legendary, live racing returns to the Horse Capital of the World October 8th, 2021. The Fall Meet marks the 85th anniversary of racing at Keeneland. Seventeen days of racing will be hosted Friday, 10/8, through Saturday, 10/30/21. First, it’s Fall Stars Weekend!

Do not despair, as the Kentucky Derby will soon be here, though the Keeneland Spring meet has concluded. Keeneland did bring the horses of our dreams and the quality races for those who look most forward to it.

Following forty four prep races over the course of eight months there are now only two stakes left that offer points to qualify for the Kentucky Derby. Saturday, we will see the final two preps, the Lexington Stakes and the Arkansas Derby. These are the last laps, on the Road to The KY Derby.
