The KY Oaks is tied by only the Kentucky Derby for being the oldest annual sporting event. Inaugurated in 1875, the KY Oaks is a Grade I race for 3 year-old thoroughbred fillies. The $1.25 million dollar, Longines KY Oaks race is 1 and 1/8 miles on dirt. Churchill Downs racetrack, in Louisville, KY, will be decorated in pink. Guest are encouraged to dress in the same color. The winning horse in the KY Oaks will be draped in a garland of “Lilies For The Fillies”, made of the official flower, the stargazer lily.

This year’s edition of the KY Oaks looks to be particularly full of talent. This should be a fun race to watch and/or wager on. I like the depth and range of these fillies. These thoroughbreds are pretty in any color but I do look forward to seeing who will wear the pink garland of lilies. I hope you like my pictures as much as I loved taking them.
