What a week it has been.  Since my last post I have attended Thoroughbred sales at both Fasig-Tipton and Keeneland and live racing at Churchill Downs.  I have witnessed the sale of champions like Tepin, Stellar Wind, Catch A Glimpse and Songbird, seen the weanling foals of sires like American Pharoah and Medaglia d’ Oro and enjoyed racing at the home of the Kentucky Derby.  A common thread at the auctions and the track are the impressive and primarily female offspring of the late Scat Daddy.

Monday, 11/6/17, I headed out to Fasig-Tipton in my hometown of Lexington, KY.  Scat Daddy was represented by 3 horses, all mares , of the 203 cataloged Thoroughbreds.  Combined, the 3 Scat Daddy ladies sold for over $4.8 million dollars.  Nickname hammered for $3 million, Sing Lady Sing brought $37 thousand and Dacita sold for $1.85 million dollars.  Overall, the sale moved 115 head for over $74 million dollars.

Keeneland November offers 17 Scat Daddy sired Thoroughbreds of the 4,145 catalogued.   The sale kicked off Tuesday November 7th and it continues through the 18th.  6 of 10 Scat Daddy fillies and mares have sold through the auction so far.  They grossed over $2.8 million dollars of the over $159. 4 million dollars grossed at this sale so far.  Wapi hammered for over $1 million dollars, Finest was RNA (Reserve Not Attained), Scatladybdancing brought $390 thousand, Surfside Tiara sold for $675 thousand, Downside Scenario was OUT, Dream to Dream was RNA, Elandess was OUT, Scat’s Empire sold for $170 thousand, Kool Kat brought $350 thousand and Siempre Mia sold for $185 thousand dollars.

Seven Scat Daddy offspring have yet to be brought through the auction.  They include 6 fillies and mares and one special colt.  These are For the Lash (already updated as an OUT), Kiss N Scat, Silky Girl, Major Force (colt), Daring Bride, Garnisheed Wages and Miracle Girl.  Keep an eye on these horses.  Scat Daddy’s success as a sire has left his offspring in high demand.

Taking a break from the sale I went to Churchill Downs in nearby Louisville, KY on Friday, 11/10/17.  I went to see Titled race 1 mile on the turf.  She is one of my favorite horses and one whom I’ve been following training and on the track for years.  She was sired by Scat Daddy and foaled in 2013.  Titled has won 3 of her 12 career starts and I was so sure she was going to do it again.  She was the clear leader early on and for a long portion of the race but in the far turn she got boxed into a pack of 5 and at the 3/16th pole she lost her lead to finish seventh.  She will do better in the next race.

Not surprisingly, Titled was beaten by her own sister.  Celestial Insight, is also a 4 year-old filly, sired by Scat Daddy.  She now has 4 wins to her 13 starts.  I have watched her win at Keeneland before.  If Titled had to lose I am glad it was another Scat Daddy filly that pulled off the win.  In a field of 10 on a card of 10 in race 9 posting at 5:11 PM EDT these were the only 2 Scat Daddy fillies in that race.

I hope you have enjoyed the photos from my week at the sales and the races.  I do love the Scat Daddy divas.  It is nice to see the sales do so well.  It gives me a shared sense of optimism for Thoroughbred racing.  Keep on reading Thoroughbred U for unique horse news and experiences.  Do you have a favorite Scat Daddy filly or mare?
