It takes champion skill and many prep points to earn a spot in the Kentucky Derby starter gate. The Risen Star Stakes offers a rise in the point values offered to the top five finishers. 105 points are at stake in this stakes. The Risen Star Stakes will post at Fair Grounds in Louisiana on Saturday, 2/18/23. Curly Jack is in sixth place on The Road To The Kentucky Derby. Curly Jack finished first at the very start of the KY Derby prep races, the Iroquois Stakes at Churchill Downs. In his last start, Curly Jack was second in the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes at Churchill where he earned more KY Derby prep points. He hopes to win the KY Derby this year back at Churchill Downs. Curly Jack will face another 13 contenders in race 13 at 7:14 P.M ET in New Orleans, LA. He is entry number 9 in the $400,000 purse, 1 and 1/8 mile stakes. Curly Jack is trained by Thomas M. Amoss and his jockey is Edgar Morales.
